ThunderCats, one of the most beloved cartoons of the 1980s and a continuing cultural force, comes to Cartoon Network in an all-new contemporary reimagining of the iconic animated series. The network announced the official premiere date for the series today, and revealed that the show will kick off with an hour-long special at 8 PM Eastern on July 29, then settle into a weekly schedule of half-hour episodes beginning August 5. Lion-O, the newly appointed Lord of the ThunderCats, attempts to lead the team as they make this planet their new home. Staying true to the premise of the original series, Lion-O and the ThunderCats - Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara, Wilykat, and Wilykit - barely escape the sudden destruction of their home world, Thundera, only to crash land on the mysterious and exotic planet of Third Earth. The series was originally supposed to air on Cartoon Network last year, but it was delayed for some reason. All I can say is that they must have targeted the series towards little kids because it’s definitely not for fans of the original show. I don’t like the bubbly cute animation style and I just didn’t find that first episode funny or entertaining at all. The series is supposed to be a comedic take on the classic ThunderCats series, but I’m definitely not a fan of it. They recently shared the first episode of the series on the Cartoon Network app, and it’s now been announced that the series will debut on the actual Cartoon Network channel on Saturday, February 22nd.
Cartoon Network has been producing a new ThunderCats animated series titled ThunderCats Roar for awhile now.
